Black Men In Business | BPerryFilms
In this presentation, Black Men In Business, we will discuss some trigger discussions when it comes to the Black Experience. The Black Experience as a black male in society from early childhood determined at birth to adulthood. When we talk about what that means we break down many layers that many people don't really look into. There’s a lot of content online about men’s health and how its not being acknowledged but they don’t touch the root of this issue. Identity is broken down into so many layers. These layers may include but not only to your skin tone, your upbringing, your background, culture, and the environment you are in plays a big part as to how many people perceive who you are before people get to know the real you.
I wanted to create this film to give context to the Black Community and show that your voice can be heard and it doesn’t require making a social movement. You just have to pitch yourself to an audience that is willing to listen to what is on your mind and what you are experiencing in real time. Finding your voice and passion can be hard but if you're willing to share knowledge people will be willing to listen to what you have to say. There is a difference between being sympathetic and empathic that's where the lack of communication stems from. Being sympathetic is feeling sorry for a person because of what they are feeling at the current moment but empathy comes from a state of understanding where the person is coming from.
There are so many ways that we can break this discussion down and how it can shift people’s ways of thinking but its about creating growth and opportunities for those who are less fortunate. Some of the barriers that many black men experience is that stereotypes from early childhood are that they will never be in leadership roles and that there's no high positions for a Black Man. The are also taught that by 16 they will have a criminal record, by 21 many of them wont see pass that birthday, also for Performing Artist they don’t live past 27 due to anxiety, suicidal rates, not being in the right state of mind and even their environment.
